God bless Ukraine in its fight against the Russians.  I am so ashamed that my country with the most powerful armed forces does nothing except weak useless sanctions to help.  Our old befuddled President is a useless shadow who does nothing to help Ukraine.  Please take care of yourselves and try and stay safe.

Occupy Western Ukraine around Lvov with US and NATO forces and tell Vladimir if he attacks our forces in western Ukraine we will fire cruise missiles at his forces. Then use the safe haven provided by our forces in the very western part of Ukraine as a base for the Ukrainian forces to attack the Russian occupying forces in the same fashion as Russia has done in the Donbass for years. If Vladimir attacks our forces things will become very dangerous but I cannot abide abandoning the Ukrainians to their fate. Just like how that figurehead President we have and his handlers abandoned the Afghans to their fate. All he needed to do was keep 3-4000 US troops in Afghanistan and not abandon them the way he is abandoning the Ukrainians. It is disgraceful and I am ashamed.

I'm an Australian and I'm ashamed that a democracy in Europe has been abandoned by the West / NATO. We need to toughen up not worry about gender equality / refugees /climate change and other weak leftist policies while Russia / China pursue their agendas. Don't talk about diplomacy and sanctions they won't worry this lot while the west is soft and weak. Sooner or later we will have to stand up.

I2 agree with you witt88. Proud European here. I thought we had learned from 2 world wars which devastated our continent and reaped tens of millions of lives that we should stop killing each other. But there's always a dictator or quasi dictator that will be willing to sacrifice thousands of lives for his ambitions and thirst for power. While NATO cannot risk intervening openly as this could trigger a nuclear war as Putin would not hesitate to use his arsenal if pushed to the wall we should have been tougher against him in the past and we should have tried to undermine his regime even through the use of black- ops , cyber war anything to cripple his army, government and economy. True enough woke policies and a decline in moral values have led us to this dysfunctional world where leftist virtue signalling and posturing have become
the all-important media preoccupations and obsession while dictators and strongmen are running amok. This is how it must have felt for the old Romans during the last few decades before Imperial Rome collapsed destroyed internally before external forces finished it up.

I believe that Putin would threaten and perhaps use nuclear weapons if what you suggest is tried. Putin is a rat and if cornered will fight like one. NATO did not go to war over Czechoslovakia in 68 or Hungary in 56 and it's not going to go to war over a non NATO state now.

What it should do is massively reinforce Poland and the Baltic states with NATO boots on the ground, and they should be mostly Euro boots. It's time that Europe fulfill it's commitment for it's own defense.
Ukraine should be continually supplied with all the weapons it's brave people need to fight the Russians.
This war is not popular with the Russian people. News is filtering through to the Russians. The Kremlin does not have the same Great Firewall that China does.

I think Biden is doing a far better job than his predecessor did or would do now. He was actually praising Putin's murderous aggression.

I fully agree with Tanker. Russia has a very large arsenal of Nuclear weapons both strategic and tactical and would not hesitate to use them if pushed to the wall.

I also agree with him that Europe, and by that I mean other than the UK and France, needs to pull its weight and should provide most of the troops, armour and aircrafts with US support but only as a counter against any Russian nuclear blackmail. During the heydays of the Cold War, Europe provided 80% of troops, 85 of all armour, 65 % of aircrafts and helicopters and 60 % of naval forces incl. submarines facing the Warsaw Pact. There's no reason they cannot do the same now to protect NATO countries against an unlikely but possible Russian attack on the Baltic states or Poland. .

I also fully agree with Tanker's assessment of Biden's performance. I am not a fan of his but Trump with his rash, impulsive and often ill-thought moves would be much worse.
Supplying the Ukrainians with weapons, giving their refugees sanctuary, providing logistical support ammo, weapons , food , medication, while turning up economic and psychological pressure on Russia( sanctions, isolation ect) is the only reasonable course of action. Like Tanker I also think Putin's support for the aggression against the Ukraine is not strong amongst ordinary Russians. I am also not convinced the army other than the top elements is entirely behind him. As casualties mount so will opposition to the war .

You are perhaps correct. The thought of a nuclear war is too horrible to contemplate. But to abandon Ukraine to its fate is disgraceful.

Biden's performance in Afghanistan should educate your opinion of his handling of the current affair. He is simply doing what his handlers tell him to do. And his handlers are idiots. You are right that Trump was rash impulsive and did ill-thought out things but Vladimir did not attack the Ukraine in the last four years did he now.

Vladimir can sense weakness and Biden's performance in Afghanistan was a national disgrace, as is his handling of this affair. But you are probably both correct that what you suggest is the best we can do for the Ukrainians. That does not make it any less disgraceful that we in the USA with the most powerful military on the planet cannot do more to help the Ukrainians.

I wish I could be as optimistic about Germany and the rest of NATO's ability to defend themselves against any further Russian attack but plainly with the US reinforcing our NATO presence massively right now that should be enough to deter any Russian aggression against NATO. Let's hope Vladimir has not gone completely off the deep end.
