Hi, Guys!
I'd like to make an announcement as for the new models in SABOW.
It is no secret that game SABOW is a very limited with a tanks under user' control. Also there is no secret that STA team doesn't has SABOW as a favorite game
But due to the very high interest from the users and some requests, which we get via PM, I think it's time to do something for this game What do u think?
But our first goal is SF. It goes without saying. We want to get a Source code and thus we're interested to get some money. It's not a secret anymore. So, I'd like to suggest to discuss the next offer. We know, that on our forum there are many funs of the game SABOW. We also know that new tank models in this game will be highly appreciated. Then let's make a question. What do u think, guys, if STA team will get into SABOW development and create, i.e. Chieftain with a cockpit and under user's control? Will it be worth 200EU? I mean, if we collect the mentioned sum, then we'll implement Chieftain+cockpit(T-72?) into SABOW on the base of yours donations. I may assure, that SABOW is an extremely hard for the modding. I'm sure anyone who was involved - had confirmed this was a sentence.
Also I think, it's possible to make a new missions (or whatever it does) and may be create a new polygon. Though, I'm not sure, coz casual users doesn't has any appropriate tools. He must ask Graviteam to share them with him. Anyway, it could be resolved at any interest from the users. Here we're at er service! Would be pleased to see er replays!

I for one would be really interested in SABOW modding as in the past I tried to make a new model of a M60A1 RISE Passive as used by some U.S. Marine units during the First Gulf War for Steel Armor before it was re-released on Steam. I made the model (see accompanying pics) but never managed to get it in game. I have to admit the model wasn't particularly well optimised, but I had planned to use the existing M60 interior so I didn't have to replicate the interior as well and so I could use as much of the existing configuration and coding as possible as I thought this would make my job much easier - no such luck.

For another project I was working on, I made an M48 based on my initial M60a1 model. I rebuilt much of what I needed as I was trying to reduce the number of triangles used but as you can see I never got much past making the first lod.

No not as shown in my model, the Magach 6, which was based off the M60, used Blazer reactive armor which looked a little different to the US passive system. You can see the differences more clearly in these 2 pictures.

Interestingly, according to Wikipedia, the Israelis had 120 M48 tanks combat ready during the Six-day War. They even captured a few more M48s during the battle from the Jordanians.

As I understand it the IDF used the M48 in a few ways, firstly with the standard 90 mm gun, secondly uparmed with a 105 mm gun (Magach 3?) and finally as a basis for many of their other Magach modifications.

FWIW, I think the modding effort would be much better directed to making several of the existing vehicles - Chieftain, Centurion, T-55 at least, maybe also BMP-1, BTR-60PB and Ratel - playable, by adding at least working sight and unbuttoned views for the tank commander, preferably also a gunner's sight view.

If it's too hard to implement either the ranging MG or the later Integrated Fire Control System of Chieftain, for example, a simplified version would ber better than nothing. Heck, even the ability to play the AI-only AFVs just as the vehicle commander, woud be great.

Anyway I think a mod which makes many of the current AI-only AFVs playable with TC and gunner's sight views would be much more popular with SABOW players, than one which adds these, plus a 'cockpit', to just one tank.

Interior 3-D views are very nice to have but not essential, as proved by SF. In SABOW, we could probably have half-a-dozen additional playable vehicles in the same time and for the same effort, by adding playable TC and gunner's sights.

Animated interior views for one or more could come later.
