Windows 10

Finally yesterday, after weeks of hesitation, I made the jump and converted my desktop - which had been running Win 7 Home Premium Edition since I purchased it in 2010 - to Windows 10. The download and installation went very well, took about 2 hours total and it's mostly done automatically with little human intervention. I had lots of games on that desktop including SF. I checked and tested each and every one of them and all were running  fine. I did not save anything I left it up to MS installation. All my files and stuff was there untouched. SF works well and may be even smoother as I seem to have gained a few fps compared to Win 7. Windows 10 is like 7 but smoother and more polished. In my opinion it's worth the jump as the future of gaming and pcs lies with Windows 10.BTW all the drivers required for Windows 10 are installed automatically by the Win 10 installer which is great. Now I am going to convert my Asus gaming laptop, which runs Win 8.1, to 10 re-assured that everything will go smoothly.

It is good to hear your input concerning the install and that W10 is worth the upgrade from W7.

Thanks for letting us know. I've been hesitant to make the switch. Hearing of your experience eases that anxiety. Please update us if you have any problems with older programs that you have not noticed yet.

It's really worth taking the jump. I am really happy with how light and use-friendly Win 10 is. Remind me of XP and Win 7 in the functionality although the presentation looks a bit like Win 8.1.Also what I like is the fact that there won't be monthly or periodic windows updates which often malfunction and create more problems than they solve. Only upgrades and added functionalities to the system. Not to forget Direct X 12 which will bring incredible benefits to future gpus and games.

Why won't there be periodic updates? I think you mean there will be automatic updates that you don't have to do and of course have no influence over.

My only concern is that I have a somewhat buggy win 7 install and I'm afraid that would just transfer over to win 10.

Does anyone know if upgrading from win 7 to 10 gives you a complete and separate new win 10 or does it use components from the win 7 installation?

The reason I ask is that I have a problem with win 7 that won't allow me to update microsoft.net beyond v4.x. It says something about invalid certificates. I've not been able to repair or fix the error.

From my own experience with 3 computers/laptops converted from windows 7 or 8.1 to 10 is that it's en entirely new installation. Any error you have in your current OS will be erased along with the OS. It's a conversion yes in a sense but it's also a transformation.

That is good news. A good reason for me to upgrade.
