Yesterday U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R-TX), Ben Cardin (D-MD), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) introduced the Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act, which would authorize the President to enter into lend-lease agreements directly with Ukraine and provide military equipment necessary to protect vulnerable civilian populations from a Russian military invasion.
“There's no question weakness is a provocation to authoritarian figures like Vladimir Putin, and the threat of sanctions or financial support for Ukraine will not be enough to deter an invasion,” said Sen. Cornyn. “This legislation would allow us to once again serve as the arsenal of democracy and provide Ukraine with lethal weapons against the Russian threat to its sovereignty.”
“American foreign policy is strongest when Congress and the White House are united in policy and purpose. At present, we stand together against Russian aggression towards Ukraine,” said Sen. Cardin. “Our bipartisan bill streamlines the tools available to the president as he works to bolster Ukraine’s defense and protect innocent civilians, in an effort to lessen the likelihood that Russia will use its troops against its neighbor.”
“The U.S. should be doing everything possible to assist our friends in Ukraine against Vladimir Putin’s shameless and illegal aggression,” Sen. Wicker said. “Expanding the United States’ ability to lend and lease critical equipment and capabilities would be an effective way to empower the Ukrainian people to fight and win against a strong Russian force. We need an overwhelming bipartisan vote and a presidential signature on this legislation without delay.”
“On the heels of a bipartisan delegation I helped lead to Ukraine, it’s clear the U.S. must take decisive and urgent action to support our Ukrainian partners and deter a Russian incursion. This legislation shows there is bipartisan unity in Congress to provide President Biden with the tools needed to swiftly deliver critical defense capabilities to Ukraine and stand firm against the Kremlin,” said Sen. Shaheen. “This bill ensures bureaucratic hurdles won’t hinder the administration from acting quickly to provide Ukraine with the tools needed to protect civilians should Putin decide to invade. The Kremlin will pay a hefty price if they escalate this crisis, and the U.S. will put its money where its mouth is to help Ukraine defend itself. There is too much at stake; Congress must act swiftly, and most critically – work together – to get legislation across the finish line.”

Russian atomic cannons move closer to Ukraine’s border
Russia has not let up with a military build-up along the border with Ukraine and deployed to border areas its 203-mm self-propelled guns, that could fire tactical nuclear shells.
Social media users posted videos showing 2S7 Pion self-propelled artillery guns at Vesela Lopan, Belgorod region, just 17 kilometers (10 miles) from the Ukrainian border.
Some experts said that this ic could be an upgrade version of an artillery system, called 2S7M “Malka”.
The 2S7 self-propelled gun, known popularly as the “Soviet atomic cannon”, can carry up to four 203 mm nuclear shells that could eliminate targets at a range of 37.5 km.

I read the article pretty quickly but I only saw one item the author says that the Americans adopted. That was the use of suppressors to mask muzzle flash. I'd like to hear from a US military sniper but I cannot believe that any US sniper program does not account for hiding muzzle flash.

Everybody knows American snipers have more' flashy ' personalities like Chris Kyle :-)

His book made interesting reading but I'm not sure snipers or Spec Ops really should be publicizing their exploits.

Unfortunately Chris's flashy and helpful personality did not protect him from the deranged individual he was trying to help.

I read the article and like you I was surprised to hear that US snipers were not using flash suppressors before. It seems comment sense to me if you want to survive long enough in that line of business.

I would say that the US army has not fought the Russians in recent years and I am sure the Ukrainians can teach the US many useful lessons in how to fight Russians and what techniques do they use as snipers or in other fields. The US is used to fighting second rate armies like the Iraqis, Syrians or various terrorist groups but the Russian army is at another level of proficiency and professionalism and Ukrainian soldiers can provide very recent and helpful experience which could become crucial if, God forbid, hostilities should start and Russians invade the Ukraine.

I'm sure you're right about learning from the Ukrainians. Hopefully the US Army will listen.

Putin has gotten his $100 million yacht out of Germany and back to Russia before repairs were completed. Seems like he's serious about invading.

NO I think he is afraid the German swill yield to US and UK pressure and simply freeze Putin's assets. There is talk amongst Western countries to preventively start freezing the assets of Putin and his minions to send a message that starting a full-fledge war would have consequences. Therefore Putin is hedging his bets and getting his beloved assets ahead of any such sanctions. I  don't think it has to do with the imminence of war. Putin is a former Chekist, these guys are used to playing intoxication and deception games to demoralize their adversaries and put them off balance. But he is no fool; a war started by Russia could very well end his regime.

I think we are saying the same thing. That's what I was driving at anyway.

Germany is certainly acting like a conflicted poonanni about checking Putin's aggression.

Yes Germany has become the world-champion of fence-straddling and evasion of reality. Germany's favourite blitzkrieg is now a lightning war of empty words combined with salvoes of diplomatic platitudes.However do not underestimate Germany's resolve; they are determined to fight to the last American!

Yes i would like to see Germany stand up more and pay their way with NATO. I think it's 2% GDP. Maybe the shadows of WW2 and the dependance on Russian Gas. I hope they won't invade. Ukraine is a sovereign nation and I hope all our SF brothers will be safe and well. Stay strong Ukraine.
