Not sure if there is an appetite for war in Europe given the Covid situation there. Only the UK might be prepared to intervene but they won't do it without the US by their side. Anyway I doubt Putin will strike .He is a former KGB man. These guys always think for the long run. Just listen to Yuri Bezmenov's interview about what their long term plan to subvert the US was which seems to be coming true.

One Ukrainian serviceman has been killed and three others have been injured after their military vehicle hit an improvised explosive device in the area of the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) in eastern Ukraine on Tuesday, April 27, the JFO headquarters' press service has reported on Facebook.

As reported by Censor.NET.

"Today, on April 27, in the area of responsibility of the North operational and tactical group, a Joint Forces serviceman sustained fatal injuries after a military vehicle hit an improvised explosive device. Three more servicemen sustained combat injuries," the report reads.

According to the report, the wounded soldiers were taken to a medical facility and were given medical care. Their condition is satisfactory.

God save Ukraine. The situation is very serious. a mad dog can rush at any moment.

I am afraid the Ukraine is going to be sacrificed at the altar of Realpolitik. Neither Europeans nor the US are interested ins toking a conflict with Russia and the Ukraine is a not a major international player and power and has limited clout in the West.

My suggestion to the Ukrainian government would be to engage in a treaty with Russia, recognise that the Crimea is part of Russia( there's no going back I don't think it can ever part of the Ukraine again) in exchange for a population swap all Russian-speaking minorities in eastern Ukraine should be relocated to the Crimea or Russia ( all paid by Western powers) and this way the Ukraine could have a more homogenous country with secure borders and no more ethnic conflicts. It's not popular suggestion I am sure but as a realist I think it's about the only way out of a protracted conflict which is costing lives and economic progress.

I am sure that the Kremlin does not need a peaceful solution. they dream of completely taking over the whole of Ukraine.And then-on.

Russia is in demographic decline. Putin is not interested in the Baltic states nor does he want the entire Ukraine as he knows the people would resist Russian rule. Look how difficult small Chechnia was for the Russian army. He wants ideally to recreate a smaller version of the Russian empire centred around Slavic countries like Belarus ( the language is very close to Russian), the Russian speaking parts of the Ukraine, Moldova, possibly parts of northern Kazakhstan.

I don't criticize Chamberlain. He knew that people in western democracies were not willing to fight and die for Czechoslovakia.

Look how Biden dealt with Putin. He just sized the guy and gave him some tough words and nothing else. No reproach about Crimea or Russian aggression. He also is a realist who does not want to US dragged into another protracted war.

I don't think Belarus language is very close to Russian.

Well I had a Russian GF for 2 years who was born and lived in Minsk ( Her father was general in Red Army stationed there)and she told me the 2 languages were very close. She said it feels like a mix of Polish and Russian.
