It is a beautiful day, sunny and warm and the family is screaming that they want to go out for ice cream cones.

So you go out your driveway and grab what vehicle before you head out for a day of travel and fun, the trusty family 1987 Yugo or just maybe the M3 Half Track with plenty of open roof space in the back for the kid's to yell & scream all they want and to their heart's content.

And not only that, your wife is even smiling for the first time in day's also! LoL

This is excellent info! I'm sure APC M3 is still reliable. Just don't understand why Soviet Union didn't take this great vehicle for the infantry.

They did have some lend-lease M3 APCs (or M5) but iirc they were mostly used to transport HQ sections (battalion & upwards) and logistics, since they were too valuable, due to the general lack of armored halftracks of their type, to use as regular "battle-taxi" halftracks and some M3 Scout Cars were used by the Soviets' recon units.

SU-57 was based on M3.

That thin metal plate does not look like it could even stop a rifle bullet.

As KapulA noted the primary use of APC M3 was as a "battle-taxi". So, no need to have a strong armor. Modern APC has 8-12 mm armor thickness to carry out the cargo tasks. MG was only for the self-defence.
Some quantity was delivered to Soviet, but it wasn't use as "battle-taxi". There was Studebaker for this role! ~150 000 lend-lease Studebaker trucks were sent to the USSR.

And these trucks were used as a base for BM-13 also. Without help of Allies the war would finished a very soon for the Soviet.
