Кобзарі збиралися у старій козацький фортеці. Вони співали про свободу, віру та славні подвиги козаків. Фортеця вже давно була руїною. Але вони цього не бачили. Не хотіли бачити.

I was really impressed by this movie. I didn't suppose it was made in Ukraine. (There were some fragments devoted to "Battle under Kruty" 29 January 1918. There was Company of students who stayed to the death against Bolshevik Army under command of Muravyov. 27 students were captured by bolsheviks and executed).
But I was surprised, when I heard children voice, who talked in Ukrainian with American pronunciation. It's a very unusual thing for me.

Definitely a film worth watching! Stalin and his minions have so many apologists in Russia and amongst the leftist so-called intellectuals of Western Europe who praised him for saving Europe from Nazism and even some credit him for saving democracy ( if you can believe it?) conveniently forgetting that he is history's greatest butcher ahead of other nominees for an academy award of depravity such as Mao, Hitler, Gengis Khan. Pol Pot or Lenin. The cruelty and inhumanity of Soviet communism must never be forgotten.

It looks like a great movie and read it did come in a English version. But can not find anything as far as a DVD release date.

"Hrechanyky" Ukrainian ppl sang these songs, when they dying of hunger, but had the time for a joke. This joke was lethal for the whole Ukrainian nation.
