Lockie, you are more than correct in your statement.

Russia is a declining power. Demographically and economically. In 1991 Russia had 153 million inhabitants. Today they are lucky if they have 143 million. The Russians have not been able to move form a heavily resources dependent economy to one that actually manufactures and provides services the world wants to buy. Yes they can make weapons but that's it. Their infrastructure is obsolete, many rural areas still don't have electricity and the bulk of the wealth is in the hands of a very tiny minority . The population suffers form rampant alcoholism, sexual transmitted diseases including HIV derived from drug use, a high rate of suicides, homicides and traffic fatalities. This is a doomed society.

frinik... most of what you say is correct and I will agree with some of what you say, but all you really have to ask is, what has Russia given back to to the world to benefit "all" since the 1917 Revolution?  

But than again your also leaving out one more important item and that is "history repeats itself".  Which is concerning for all of us and that really includes those who have been sitting on the sidelines. Must say that that item is also changing now.

I suspect the Russians are going to provide material to replace the lost aircrafts and armour of El Assad , military advisors to teach how to use them and people to provide logistical support to the regime. I doubt they will provide ground troops to fight at the side of Assad,

It's bluster. Russia just does not have the means to pursue a war lasting more than 2 weeks. Invading Sweden or any other Western European country would be disastrous for the Russian and Putin knows it.

Your thinking of war in terms or duration of WWII or even recent wars. These idea's of making and waging war are as old as the ending of the Cold War, which is just a idea and not a reality.

People seem to let things slide through the cracks and forget about them very quickly today and a case in point is everyone thinks of the next war being a Nuclear orientated event.

Apparently they never have read anything about the "Geneva Protocol" and must rely on getting their education from the TV set or fantasy computer sources.

For if they have read anything about this subject they would know that USSR or Russian have never signed or have left such a Protocol.

No, war will be waged in a much different method or technique than what it is being portrayed in the news or other media today. And "hopefully" we will live out our day's on this small planet of ours and not witness such an event. Just maybe.
