Winter Blues

As of lately my wife & I & the two dogs need a little break from cold & snow removal and all the other pleasures of life associated with the winter season before the snow storm we are getting tonite and tomorrow. The snow total of our little area of the planet which is not even close to the Arctic Circle, is...  Worcester, Mass.  92.1 inches so far and about roughly 51 inches of which we received during the last couple of weeks and winter is not over just yet.  Old man Winter is playing games with us.

I'm with you there woofiedog. I'm right up the highway, near Nashua, NH. Snow is a 4 letter word.

Living in s country where right now it's spring and yesterday it was 37 degrees( centigrades) don't ask me in Farenheits since nobody but you guys use them...But I would venture over 100F. I have seen one day of rain in the 7 months I have been here. My highest temp was 51 degrees( probably 120-130 F) my lowest high was 22 C in Jan. My heart is with you guys really but my body is right now in the warm sea of the Persian Gulf...

Yeah but you have to return to Canada sometime eh? Personally I'll take blizzards to Ramadan and that stifling climate any day. I spent two years in Guantanamo. Relatively dry for the Caribbean. Always a breeze from the ocean. Temps were never higher than 95F in the summer with low humidity. Plus no mullahs droning on in mosque towers multiple times a day. Only draw back was the possibility of hurricanes in late summer and fall.

Yes, it's just a 45 55 min ride from here, I'm north of Worc.  I'll take a winter storm and cold over 100 degree weather any day of the week, they can call it dry heat all they want, it's still "frigging hot" to me. At least when your cold you just put on another layer or breakout a blanket, there is nothing besides air conditioning or go take a swim in the lake too beat the heat.

But it's time to fireup the trusty snowblower and make a trail. We already have about 3-4 ft of snow already on the ground before this storm and spent some time last week rearranging the snow piles around the house to make a little room for this storm.

Hem Tanker only some Canadians use the eh at the end of their sentences( I don't.Anyway English is not my mother tongue)and it's only in some regions of Eastern Canada. Most Canadians speak an English that is indistinguishable from what most Eastern coast Americans speak ( my opinion). Let's not forget that Canada was initially mostly settled by descendant of United Empire Loyalists ( American colonists who wanted to remain loyal to the British Crown)who brought their distinct accent and customs( Thanksgiving ) to a Canada that was sparsely populated at the time.

I have been on the road for 10 years and I have 7 years to retire which I intend to do in Panama City ( the one in Latin America not in Florida). I have been told I can stay overseas for the next foreseeable future.  Being of Scandinavian and German ancestry the cold does not bother me except I find that winters lasting 5 months suck! Winter is enough for Xmas and that's it! I love the sun and being free to wander off in t shirt and shorts... As for the local climate I agree with you even though I personally enjoy being outside at 51 degrees it gets a tad stifling. But after India with 47 degrees and full humidity at least it's dry. Egypt too was hot but more bearable. As for the Muezzins( those who call to prayer) you get used to it. I lived 3 years in Tunisia and in Delhi I could hear the call to prayers for 4 years too not to mention Egypt and here now. I lived for 10 years in Lat Am and I love the place. Spent 2 years in Haiti and a few weeks in Cuba. I guess you were in the army( armoured forces) judging by your handle and you stay in Guantanamo??? It's good to have real army guys playing this sim. Navy for me. Tanker would have been my choice if I'd been unfortunate enough to not have been able to fly.

I've never been through a hurricane but from what I've heard, there's nothing to love about them. To each his own though.

Well it's a balmy -6 F degrees outside at the moment, with a 32 mph wind, giving us a -32 F degrees wind chill.  I'm sure that there is somewhere else on this great planet of ours, a bit more colder. But right here I will be guessing that you won't be needing those ice cubes to keep your drink well chilled today.

In China???No never although I almost went to live in Shanghai a couple of years ago. In Asia I have only lived in India and in the Philippines.

It probably springs from the Canadian comedians on Second City Tv and other comedic venues. I know of several Canadian comedians that use that and "hoser" (sp?) in their routines. It's probably one of those myths that morphs into urban legend through repetition, like, the English have bad teeth and Americans are cowboys.

That s right , I worked for Berlitz and another private language school both as teacher and translator for 3 years.That was a long time ago though.

Enjoy learning about Canada with Bob and Doug McKenzie, the two cultural ambassadors most responsible for conveying the idea that Canadians say eh and hoser nonstop (whether they do or not).

Panama City has a population of retired American's and still uses the good old US dollar for it's currency. A good friend that I worked with many years now resides in Panama City, as he had property and family living in the city before retirement.

So how will you enjoy dwelling amongst so many of us truculent American's? Would you not be perpetually glancing over your shoulder for our iniquitous and unrighteous aggregate assemblage.

Mmmm to tell you the truth I have far many more Europeans than Americans in Panama . That being said I get along well
lwith Americans. They use the US dollar but the Panamanians çall it Balboa. I chose Panama because of the currency,stability,climate,the people are friendly ,I speak fluent Spanish and I love Latin America.

My friend that lives in Panama City, is a Panamanian. As with other members of his family, he joined the US military, himself, during the mid 70's, he in the US Navy and served aboard the carrier USS Forestall. I worked with him for a little over 13 yr's before he retired.

When I do contact him in the future, I'll ask him a few questions and will get back to you.
